Bacon Rind Surface Hoar

Surface hoar buried 18" deep is fracturing clean.  As we skinned uphill we got collapsing and cracking on this layer. Our Extended Column Test propagated with 5 taps (see video).  Isolating a column for a compression Test the surface hoar broke before I even tapped it (CTV, Q1).  This slope was 20 degrees steep and east facing in the southern Madison Range.  Photo by GNFAC
