"I observed this collapse & propagation as I stepped over some wood in the skinner on the north ridge of Mount Ellis this morning, ~8000’, due East. I was tailing Chabot and his partner, and they had passed this way just minutes before." Photo: D. Rider

I observed some good size crowns from Beehive Basin Road this afternoon. They were on the west side of the ridge dividing Beehive Basin and Jack Creek. They were not down to the ground but big and wide looked like probably all the recent snow from the storm. Photo: T Grande

Natural avalanches on a west aspect at about 8300' a few miles west of Cooke City. These slides are about 2' deep and 30-50' wide. Photo: B Fredlund

Bridger Range, 2020-02-11

One large avalanche (photos attached) ripped mid-storm and deposited debris into the meadow to approximately 50m of the temporary WX station. Estimated as "SS-N-R3-D3-S” with multiple snapped trees in the debris (one 20’+ tall). Couldn’t get eyes on the whole crown, but it appeared to have ripped up near the ridge 3-4’ deep and cascaded over the cliffs triggering deeper avalanches in the aprons below before running well into the flats. A foot of new snow has covered the debris making it harder to clearly delineate its extent. Photo: Z Miller

"...were up in Tepee today, we saw a couple small slides the one below look to be caused from a snowmobiler and we saw one other one high on the Whites peak ridge that looked to be a natural slide or maybe caused from a piece of cornise that broke off.  The rest of the ridge along White Peak also looked to be loaded up." "Large crown in lower meadows west side of beehive basin above jack creek. Both meadows in lower fight of photo went. Southwest aspect. Far right meadow crown is visible and entire face went. Left meadow is hard to see but 1/3 of face slid. I would guess 3-6 foot crown from how visible it was from moonlight." Photo: Chad Wilkinson

Today we went hunting for avalanche crowns in the Bridger Range and found some big ones. Avalanches broke deep across most slopes along the entire east and west sides of the range. Some of the most impressive were in Truman Gulch. Stay alert for the possibility to trigger these big slides. Keep the smooth bed surfaces in mind as potential future weak layer when they get reloaded. Photo: GNFAC
