Natural Avalanche on Sacajawea

Natural Avalanche on Sacajawea

This slide occurred on Thursday, Dec 20, and was probably triggered by a falling piece of cornice.  The snowpack was most likely thin and had weak facets at the ground/rocks.  From Bozeman, bare slopes on the west side of this peak can be seen telling us that the snow was blown by the wind and deposited on the slope where this avalanche occurred.  Photo: GNFAC
