This snowpit from Bell Lake was dug by a level one avalanche class six days before a skier was killed in an avalanche on a slope nearby. Between the time this pit was dug and the time of the fatality, this area received steady snowfall which increased the weight and thickness of the slab overlying the weak interface at 130cm.
