This pictures says it all. The slope that slid was littered with tracks like the terrain in the foreground. Since the weak layer that failed was buried deep in the snowpack, skier tracks did nothing to stabilize the slope.  Tracks do not equal stability.  This photo should finally put that myth to rest.
